Q1. According to IAS 2 Inventories, how should inventory be measured in the statement of financial position?
  • A.  At its original cost.
  • B.  At its net realisable value (NRV).
  • C.  At the lower of cost and net realisable value.
  • D.  At the higher of cost and net realisable value.
Show answer & explanation
✓ Answer: C. At the lower of cost and net realisable value.
IAS 2 requires inventory to be measured at the lower of its cost and net realisable value. This ensures that assets are not stated at a value higher than the amount expected to be realised from their sale.
Q2. An audit senior, who was a key member of the engagement team for XYZ Ltd last year, has just accepted a position as the financial controller at XYZ Ltd. According to the ICAEW Code of Ethics, which threat to objectivity is most significant for the current audit team?
  • A.  Self-interest threat
  • B.  Familiarity threat
  • C.  Advocacy threat
  • D.  Intimidation threat
Show answer & explanation
✓ Answer: B. Familiarity threat
The close relationship formed when the senior was part of the audit team creates a significant familiarity threat, as the team may be too sympathetic to their work or accept their explanations too readily.
Q3. Parent Co acquires 80% of Sub Co for cash consideration of £800,000. At the acquisition date, the fair value of Sub Co's identifiable net assets was £750,000. Parent Co's policy is to measure non-controlling interest (NCI) at its proportionate share of net assets. What is the goodwill to be recognised on consolidation?
  • A.  £50,000
  • B.  £200,000
  • C.  £350,000
  • D.  £500,000
Show answer & explanation
✓ Answer: B. £200,000
Goodwill = Consideration (£800k) + NCI (20% of £750k = £150k) - Fair Value of Net Assets (£750k) = £950k - £750k = £200,000.
