Multiply the total questions by the pass percentage and round up. Rounding up is the bit people get wrong: if the sum says 35.1, you cannot answer a tenth of a question, so the real target is 36.

It depends on the exam. The CSCS HS&E test and the DVSA theory tests set a fixed number of correct answers. Plenty of vocational and academic papers use a percentage instead. This calculator takes either.
